What is DMI? DMI (Dynamic Movement Intervention) is a therapeutic technique that uses a multisensory and motor-based approach to help children with motor delay/movement disabilities. DMI is based on the principle that sensory integration, alignment and physical movement are essential for a child’s development. DMI stimulates neuroplasticity to facilitate new neuronal connections and development of motor milestones.
- The goal – is to provoke a specified active motor response from the child in response to defined dynamic exercises prescribed by the therapist. DMI helps children progress towards developmental milestones by improving their automatic postural responses.
- Techniques– DMI uses a series of movement therapy techniques and exercises that challenge a child’s sensory processing and strength and posture.
- Benefits– DMI can help children learn to perform daily activities more effectively and participate in social activities with greater ease.
